What We Do
The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia® develops qualitative and therapeutic monographs on botanicals, including many of the Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Western herbs most frequently used in the United States. These monographs represent the most comprehensive and critically reviewed body of information on herbal medicines in the English language, and serve as a primary reference for academicians, health care providers, manufacturers, and regulators.
Accompanying the standards, is a comprehensive historical summary of the use of the botanical, as well as the AHP Therapeutic Compendium, which provides a complete and critical review of the available pharmacological and safety data, including information on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, actions, medical indications, historical and modern and traditional use, guidance on appropriate structure and function claims, dosages, interactions, side effects, contraindications, toxicology, and more. This information is critical for the development of substantiation files on structure and function claims, which are also required under cGMPs.
